Border Officials Are Soliciting Companies for Real-Time Facial Recognition to Use on Cars at the Border

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is enhancing its border surveillance with facial recognition technology to target vehicles entering the country. The new system involves capturing high-resolution images in a test area for quick comparisons using existing systems before analyzing images in another area if travelers aren't identified initially. Since 2016, CBP has used this technology, but challenges like low capture rates due to varying conditions have arisen. Vendors are now responding by May 30, with privacy concerns expanding beyond license plate tracking to include vehicle and driver monitoring.
