Three killed in two multiple-car accidents on Tohoku Expressway

At around 10 p.m. on Saturday, a car driving in the wrong direction on the Tohoku Expressway near Nasushiobara caused a fatal collision, injuring two men including the driver. Moments later, a traffic jam led to rear-end collisions involving six vehicles and a large truck, which killed a 60-year-old female passenger. The male driver of the large truck was arrested for negligent driving following the accidents. Authorities had previously reported a car traveling in the wrong direction near the Kuroiso-Itamuro interchange, contributing to prior near-misses. The section between Nasu and Kuroiso-Itamuro interchanges remained closed for about eight hours due to the accidents.
