VMware perpetual license holders receive cease-and-desist letters from Broadcom

Broadcom has sent cease-and-desist letters to VMware customers whose perpetual licenses expired, demanding immediate cessation of updates and patches beyond the contract's expiration date. Following its November 2023 acquisition, Broadcom stopped selling these perpetual licenses, leaving users either bound by prior support contracts or forced into more expensive subscription bundles, fueling concerns about increased software costs and unsupported alternatives like Proxmox.
