The measures include cutting visas for lower-skilled workers, raising language proficiency requirements, and extending the time needed for citizenship or permanent residency from five to ten years. Starmer emphasized that these changes are part of closing the country's borders after previous leaders allowed immigration to grow out of control, aligning his approach with a slogan used by Brexit campaigners in 2016.
