Congo-Kinshasa: Declaration of Principles

Secretary Marco Rubio, along with Foreign Ministers Therese Kayikwamba Wagner of DR Congo and Olivier Nduhungirehe of Rwanda, recently signed a declaration committing to peace, stability, and economic development in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The agreement aims to address territorial disputes, enhance security, strengthen regional economic ties, and support displaced populations. Key participants reaffirmed their support for MONUSCO and expressed efforts to facilitate IDPs' return and invest in shared priorities like hydropower and mineral value chains. This joint effort, part of the Nairobi Process framework, outlines plans to draft a peace agreement by May 2, 2025.
