Europe and America, at Odds Over Ukraine, Try Talking to Each Other

President Emmanuel Macron of France met with top American officials to maintain the appearance of a united front on the Ukraine war, despite diplomatic divisions. The meeting involved Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff, Trump's envoy, focusing on peace negotiations to end Russian aggression in Ukraine. However, Macron’s emphasis on peace talks may not align with the Trump administration's stance, which has blamed Ukraine for Russia's invasion and rejected UN resolutions against Russia. Nonetheless, Macron highlighted the meeting as an opportunity for convergence.
