Archaeologists Uncover 1,500-Year-Old Cremation Vessel Full of Human Bones

The Bromeswell bucket, initially uncovered in 1986 at Sutton Hoo, has been identified as a cremation vessel containing human and animal remains. Additional fragments found during filming of "Time Team" revealed its purpose, with an ankle bone suggesting it may have held a larger-than-pig animal. Further analysis is pending, including radiocarbon dating on animal bones, to understand the cremation process and status symbolism at Sutton Hoo.
