Japan struggles to crack down on home renovation scams

Elderly citizens in Japan are increasingly falling victim to home renovation scams, where scammers deceive them into agreeing to unnecessary repairs or paying exorbitant fees. While the police have been urging preventive measures, the land and infrastructure ministry has remained cautious about implementing stricter regulations due to concerns that such measures could burden small business owners without employees. In March, two men were arrested for their alleged involvement in a deception group targeting renovation work.
