Tepco finishes first round of fiscal 2025 treated water release

Tepco has successfully completed the first round of discharging treated water with minimal tritium into the ocean as part of its ongoing efforts to address the nuclear disaster at Fukushima No. 1. This effort, which began in August 2023 and started anew this month, will continue weekly until early next year, totaling approximately 54,600 metric tons of treated water. Despite concerns about radioactive contamination, measurements confirm that tritium levels remain well below national safety standards, ensuring the environment is safe for fishery products and other uses.
