Telefonica Outage in Spain Knocks Out Emergency Lines

A nationwide phone network went down early Tuesday, knocking out emergency services in large parts of Spain for several hours as part of a planned network upgrade. Regions including Valencia, Aragón, and the Basque Country were unable to contact Spain’s emergency number 112 due to the outage. Telefónica, the country’s largest telecom provider, acknowledged the disruption caused by its planned work and is working to restore full service. Authorities in other regions reported partial or complete outages affecting their emergency services but noted that backup systems were in place to manage the situation.
