Thailand tightens border security amid tensions with Cambodia

Thailand's top army official has appointed two task forces to manage border checkpoints with Cambodia as tensions rise after a recent clash in the disputed Chong Bok region. Effective from Saturday, the Burapha and Suranaree task forces will oversee operations at border crossings, following an exchange of gunfire that resulted in a Cambodian soldier's death during a May 28 incident. Both nations are set to discuss measures to de-escalate tensions ahead of a scheduled Joint Boundary Commission meeting in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, on June 14.
