Imperial family mourns WWII victims in two-day visit to Okinawa

The Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, and Princess Aiko concluded their two-day visit to Okinawa Prefecture by honoring those killed in the Battle of Okinawa during World War II, symbolizing a wish to pass these memories onto future generations. As Princess Aiko made her first trip to Okinawa, the family visited a monument commemorating the 1944 sinking of the Tsushima Maru evacuation ship and laid white flowers at its site before exploring the Tsushima-maru Memorial Museum.
