Tomomi Bitoh, a 34-year-old Japanese ultrarunner, surprised many by choosing to freeze her eggs at just over 33 without seeking advice or telling her parents. The decision came after she completed a grueling 170-kilometer race in the Himalayas last November. Now a month into her pregnancy plans, Bitoh shared that she didn’t feel the need for parental input or expert opinions on the matter. “I want to have a baby one day,” she said simply and truthfully, though not yet ready to parent.
