34-year memorial held for victims of Shiga train collision

Commemorating the tragedy of the 1991 Shigaraki collision, which claimed 42 lives, a fitting ceremony was held near the accident site in Koka. Participants laid flowers and paused for silence as leaders from Shigaraki Kohgen Railway and JR West pledged their commitment to enhancing train safety and remembering the precious lives lost. Seiji Shimomura, whose son was among those killed 20 years earlier, emphasized the need to learn from past events and ensure future generations avoid similar tragedies by prioritizing safety measures.
