Investment in big batteries booms as Australia’s energy transition gathers pace

Investment in Australia's clean energy sector surged to a record $2.4 billion in early 2025 as the country accelerates its transition to renewable energy. The Clean Energy Council highlighted six new battery projects totalling 1.5 gigawatts of capacity and $2.8 billion in investments, with the Wooreen battery in Victoria being the largest, supported by federal funding. However, renewable energy investments grew more slowly than other sectors, with only two solar farms committed at $410 million compared to higher investments elsewhere. The nation aims for 82% renewable energy by 2030, requiring further significant investment to meet climate goals.
