RIP Skype (2003–2025), survived by multiple versions of Microsoft Teams

Microsoft abruptly shut down Skype today after acquiring it in 2011 to replace its own Messenger service. Users were directed to use Teams instead, with the last remaining feature being the Dial Pad for traditional calls. Originally bought by eBay and venture capitalists before being sold back to Microsoft, Skype's decline coincides with its transition away from their primary communication tool.
