EU ministers back Ukrainian tribunal to try Russian officials

Accountability is a top priority for Europe as it seeks to hold Russia legally responsible for the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The EU foreign ministers in Lviv agreed to create a special tribunal, known as the "Lviv statement," to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin and other leaders to justice. However, Russia has rejected the creation of this tribunal, claiming no one should be spared from punishment for its aggression. Meanwhile, the EU is exploring additional legal measures, such as freezing assets, while France announced plans to use frozen Russian funds to maintain weapons for Ukraine, signaling its support despite the conflict.
