Japan enacts revised NTT law

The parliament passed a bill to revise Nippon Telegraph and Telephone's (NTT) operations law, removing requirements for fixed-line telephone services nationwide while allowing NTT East and NTT West to operate only in areas without competitors. Initially proposed to abolish the law, the Liberal Democratic Party-led coalition later followed a recommendation from the communications ministry council last autumn, maintaining many regulatory clauses. This revision reflects a balance between maintaining competition and supporting NTT's regional focus.
