Archibald prize 2025: Julie Fragar wins for portrait of artist Justene Williams

Julie Fragar triumphed at the 2025 Archibald Prize with "Justene Williams," capturing her friend's essence over three months before presenting it as a gesture of support. Her remarkable victory, her 13th win from over 900 entries, highlights heightened female representation in the competition this year. Meanwhile, Jude Rae earned the Wynne Prize for her evocative "Pre-dawn Sky over Port Botany Container Terminal," while Gene A’Hern won the Sulman Prize for his reflective "Sky Painting." All prizes will be displayed at the Art Gallery of New South Wales from Saturday until 17 August.
