Teaching union reverses Matt Wrack appointment ahead of legal challenge

The NASUWT teaching union has retreated from its initial decision to appoint Matt Wrack as general secretary, instead reopening nominations for the post amid a legal challenge over its nomination process. The union now allows branches until 26 May to submit nominations, including from non-members, after facing backlash from Neil Butler and Luke Lockyer for their concerns about the handling of the appointment. Wrack, who lacks teaching credentials but served as FBU general secretary for two decades, will act as acting general secretary until a fair election can be held among members.
