Social media “addicts” more likely to believe fake news

Social media users who exhibit Problematic Social Media Use (PSMU) are more likely to believe in and share fake news, spreading misinformation that plagues today's digital world. A study published in PLoS ONE highlights this connection, linking PSMU symptoms like withdrawal discomfort or mental health challenges to higher risk-taking behavior online. Researchers found that individuals with PSMU are also more prone to clicking on links, liking, sharing, or commenting on posts, potentially spreading misinformation. This finding underscores the need for greater awareness of how social media use can exacerbate the spread of falsehoods in the modern internet landscape.
