A moment that changed me: I was shy and cared too much what people thought of me. Then a group of K-pop fans came into my life

Helen’s suggestion to try K-pop in 2018 marked the start of my lifelong obsession with Korean pop culture. Initially captivated by SHINee and other boybands, I gradually became an advocate for K-pop, attending events like the GOT7-themed cafe in Soho and bonding with a diverse group of Black women who shared my quirky interests. These experiences taught me to embrace self-acceptance and find joy in connecting with others over niche cultures or hobbies. Now in my 30s, I continue to celebrate these formative moments as they’ve shaped my perspective on love, community, and personal growth.
