Time saved by AI offset by new work created, study suggests

A new study reveals that despite widespread adoption of AI chatbots in Denmark’s labor market, such as in accountancy and customer support, these tools have had little to no impact on wages or employment levels over 2023 and 2024. However, researchers found that workers inadvertently created new job tasks due to changes in workplace processes, with teachers spending time detecting ChatGPT usage for homework and others reviewing AI output quality or crafting effective prompts. This highlights the dual nature of AI’s role—reducing some roles but creating new ones.
