Police officer recounts fatal rampage in Akihabara 17 years on

On the 17th anniversary of a devastating stabbing attack in Tokyo's Akihabara district that resulted in seven deaths and 10 injuries, officer Akihiro Okuda reflected on how he rushed to investigate after hearing about the event from his boss, only to sustain serious injuries himself during the incident. The attack occurred shortly after noon on June 8, 2008, when Okuda was playing soccer with his son. The perpetrator, Tomohiro Kato, confessed to the crime in a police station following the attack and later served time before being executed in 2022.
