Sam Altman's eyeball-scanning ID technology debuts in the US

Sam Altman, cofounder of OpenAI, launched Tools for Humanity, which unveiled its innovative World biometric verification system in San Francisco. The startup uses basketball-sized orbs to scan users' irises, creating unique IrisCodes that generate WorldIDs for secure access to platforms like Minecraft and Reddit. Unlike its previous focus on cryptocurrency, World now emphasizes digital identity verification, with plans for a smartphone-shaped device called the Orb mini and partnerships including a future World Visa card and integration with apps like Tinder in Japan. The system aims to ensure users' data privacy while maintaining central control over their biometric information.
