Sweden Democrats welcome citizenship freeze as 'step in right direction'

Sweden's far-right coalition has introduced security measures that are causing delays in processing citizenship applications. In April alone, only six applications were approved after a sharp decline from thousands recorded in March due to unimplemented verification processes by the Migration Agency. While some parties criticize the new rules as ill-conceived and potentially discriminatory, others view them as steps toward a safer system. The freeze could extend application processing until late 2026, with eight years of residence required instead of five under the current regulations.
