‘Mindless’ damage: Two convicted of cutting down historic Sycamore Gap tree

In 2023, two men were found guilty of cutting down an ancient Sycamore tree at Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall in northern England. The historic tree, over 199 years old and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was even featured in the film *Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves*. After just minutes of felling, the couple, now remanded in custody, face sentences set for July 15.
