UK’s digital defences need ‘colossal’ overhaul for quantum era

Quantum computers could render current encryption obsolete, prompting urgent action to transition to post-quantum cryptography by 2035. The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre has issued a ten-year plan urging organizations to migrate to PQC-based solutions to safeguard critical systems from quantum attacks. Tech companies like PQShield are developing hardware and software for PQC, while Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) offers an alternative but faces vulnerabilities in detecting eavesdropping.
