Japan's spring honors to celebrate contributions of 3,990 people

Japan recently announced its spring honors list, recognizing 3,990 individuals including former Prime Minister Naoto Kan and House Speaker Tadamori Oshima with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers. Natsuko Toda, an 88-year-old translator, was honored with the Rising Sun order, while women account for 14% of all awardees. Notable international honorees include former U.S. Ambassador William Hagerty and Olympic President Thomas Bach.
