Struggling Nissan considers closing two plants in Kanagawa

Nissan Motor, a struggling carmaker, is considering closing two of its Kanagawa Prefecture plants as it aims to cut costs tied to outdated production equipment. The closure could spark opposition from local residents and communities where these facilities are based, particularly since they played a key role in Nissan's history. One plant produces 240,000 vehicles annually, including the Note model, while another manufactures commercial vans at 150,000 units per year.
