Trump admin tells Supreme Court: DOGE needs to do its work in secret

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is facing a legal challenge over its government cost-cutting operations under FOIA. The White House seeks to halt an order requiring DOGE to comply with discovery orders in a FOIA case filed by CREW, a nonprofit group. US Solicitor General John Sauer argued that DOGE is an exemption under FOIA as a presidential advisory body and shouldn’t be required to disclose such information. In contrast, US District Court Judge Christopher Cooper has sided with CREW, ruling that DOGE likely complies with FOIA and dismissing the request would harm the public.
