Iconic Anti-Piracy Ad May Have Used Pirated Font

A nostalgic look at a 2004 anti-piracy PSA that’s still resonating today highlights how its quirky font style has become a cultural meme. The ad, which played a role in sparking the MPAA's copyright strike against Blockbuster, used an animated font called FF Confidential but turned out to be pirated as XBAND Rough, which was free to use. Turns out the creator of XF Confidentia didn’t know about this unexpected twist and found it amusing.
