Who is Sarah Witty? The Labor candidate set to dethrone Greens leader Adam Bandt in Melbourne

Sarah Witty’s stunning victory over Greens leader Adam Bandt in Melbourne marks a pivotal moment for both parties, signaling a potential shift in power dynamics. As the first Greens MP elected since 2010, Witty, a Richmond-based foster carer and businesswoman, campaigns to address systemic disadvantage, having previously narrowly lost local council elections. Her win highlights her determination to challenge the status quo and pivot political narratives. Meanwhile, Labor faces further setbacks as it loses its share of Greens defeats this election, with Witty becoming the second candidate to unseat a party leader after Ali France did so in Brisbane.
