From tragedy to triumph: Ali France and the ‘remarkable women’ who delivered a slew of Labor wins in Queensland

Ali France's remarkable victory in Brisbane marked a turning point after years of personal tragedy, as she became Australia's first female opposition leader by ending her campaign early to be with her husband during his critical battle against leukemia. Her win at her third attempt reflected both courage and love for her husband. The election saw seven women elected, including Emma Comer and Anika Wells, whose focus on policies like affordable childcare highlighted Labor's efforts to empower women, symbolizing progress toward gender equality in Australian politics with young women now in key positions.
