Kenya: Ruto Says All Enforced Disappearance Victims Reunited With Families

President William Ruto has announced that all individuals subjected to enforced disappearances or abductions by security agencies have been released and reunited with their families. His administration reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens' rights, following a stark increase in extrajudicial killings and disappearances from 2023 to 2024—a 450% rise in disappearances alone. The report highlights that most victims were young adults aged 18-34 (79 deaths), while only seven minors under 18 and eight over 34 were affected. Despite efforts, fewer than 2% of police-related killings are prosecuted, leaving many victims without legal recourse or compensation.
