Apple has teamed up with Synchron to develop a brain-computer interface (BCI) that allows users with severe disabilities to control devices using their thoughts, targeting those with spinal injuries or diseases like ALS. The company is focusing on integrating this technology into iPhones and iPads through an implant called Stentrode, which translates brain signals into device controls. Currently, about 150,000 individuals in the U.S. are eligible for such BCI devices after Apple acquired a standard for their integration, while ongoing trials continue to explore its potential with future FDA approval and broader applications.
